Your first OhmCAD project

Step-by-step tutorial from an empty project to a basic floor plan, electrical objects, circuits and diagrams.

Goal#

This tutorial creates a small project with a room, one door, one window, electrical symbols, circuits and generated diagrams. Use realistic values from your project; the examples below are workflow examples, not AREI/RGIE approval rules.

1. Create or open a project#

Open OhmCAD, create a project or load an existing one, then open the editor. Many tools require an active project and scene before they can save objects.

2. Draw the room#

  1. Choose an outer wall tool.
  2. Click the room corners. Use Shift if you want angle snapping.
  3. Use C to close a wall loop or Enter to finish the active wall path.
  4. Check that the wall corners connect before placing symbols.

3. Add a door and window#

  1. Choose a door tool and move near a wall until a valid host is highlighted.
  2. Press R if the door swing should change, then click to place.
  3. Choose a window tool and click a valid wall host.
  4. Select an opening and press D if you need to adjust its width/depth.

4. Edit the room if needed#

Select the wall and press Shift+E to edit points. Use Enter to save or Escape to cancel. Use E on a selected wall to extend it or create a protruding section.

5. Place electrical symbols#

Use the toolbar groups for sockets, switches, lamps and appliances. Place symbols in the room. Some lamps support repeated or distributed placement; energy components such as solar panels have their own placement options.

Open the distribution board/cabinet workflow and create circuits with meaningful names. Use link mode to assign placed consumers to board circuits. Linked consumers display circuit labels on the plan.

7. Complete board and protection data#

Review protection type, rated current, poles, phases, trip curve, breaking capacity and cable type for each circuit. Add the main differential and sub-differentials where your project data requires them.

8. Generate diagrams#

Use the diagram action to generate the eendraadschema. Use the situation scheme/export workflow to export the floor plan or eendraadschema as PNG where your subscription allows it.

9. Review before sharing#

Check the floor plan, labels, circuit assignments, board data, eendraadschema pages and exported files. OhmCAD helps structure documentation, but a professional review remains necessary for compliance.
