Doors, windows and wall cutouts
Place hosted openings and understand how OhmCAD cuts wall geometry.
Hosted openings#
Doors and windows require an existing wall. OhmCAD projects the pointer onto usable wall host segments and stores the wall id, anchor point, tangent, width and depth. Windows use the same host projection model as doors.
Place a door or window#
- Choose the door or window tool.
- Move the pointer near a wall until a valid host is highlighted.
- Click to place.
- For doors, press R during placement to cycle hinge and swing orientation.
- Press Escape to cancel placement.
Move, resize and delete#
- Drag a selected door or window to reproject it onto its host wall.
- Press D to open the dimensions modal.
- Press L to lock or unlock where supported.
- Press Delete or Backspace to delete the selected opening.
Wall cutouts#
The wall cutout tool creates a polygonal cut in existing wall material. During drawing, Shift constrains points horizontally or vertically, Backspace removes the last point, Enter confirms the polygon, and Delete or Backspace applies the confirmed cutout. Escape cancels.
Multiple openings#
OhmCAD rebuilds the visible wall from source wall geometry minus the union of active cutters. This avoids the common problem where overlapping doors, windows or cutouts leave slivers because they were applied one after another.
Arc walls#
On faceted arc walls, openings can use practical straight facets. When an opening spans a facet boundary, cutters follow the covered centerline segments so the joint is removed with the opening.
Troubleshooting#
- If an opening will not place, the pointer is probably too far from a valid wall host or the requested width does not fit.
- If a tool refuses to start, finish or cancel the current active tool first.
- If a custom cutout creates invalid wall topology, OhmCAD rejects the geometry rather than saving a broken wall.
