Circuits

Creating circuits and assigning components

Use circuits to group electrical components and build the basis for diagrams.

What is a circuit in OhmCAD?#

A circuit groups components that belong together electrically. Assigning components to circuits builds the information needed for diagrams and board organization.

Create a circuit#

Create circuits before reviewing output. Use clear names that match the installation or intended documentation.

The cabinet workflow supports multiple boards. Circuit names need to be meaningful and must pass the editor validation. New circuits can receive default protection settings from the editor settings or cabinet modal.

Assign components#

Check each component and assign it to the correct circuit. Unassigned components can be missing or incomplete in later documentation.

Phases and cable data#

Where fields for phases, poles, cable types, or protection are available, complete them based on verified project knowledge. Do not rely on a default value without checking it.

Protection fields used by OhmCAD#

OhmCAD stores protection type, rated current, number of poles, L1/L2/L3 phase toggles, trip curve, breaking capacity in kA and cable type. These values feed the board view and eendraadschema rendering. Phase selection is represented as project data; do not assume it performs every possible load calculation.

Differentials#

The differential workflow requires a main differential before sub-differentials are managed. A main differential has a name, current value, pole count and sensitivity. Sub-differentials can be assigned circuits and the board view shows protected and unprotected counts.
